Prefix Alert: Prefixes like un-, dis-, im- often form instant antonyms!
Shades of Meaning (Word Intensity)
Not all synonyms mean the exact same intensity!
Synonyms exist on a spectrum from mild to extreme. Choose the word that matches the precise feeling:

1 The Substitution Swap
Replace the mystery word with your candidate synonym. If the sentence makes total sense, it’s a match!
2 Synonym Signal Clues
Look for signal words: like, also, that is, in other words.
3 Antonym Contrast Clues
Look for pivots: however, unlike, but, instead, on the other hand.
4 Positive vs. Negative Charge
Check the connotation! Does the word carry a positive (+), negative (-), or neutral (=) feeling?
