She feels conflicted! She is tempted and excited by the delicious berry, but suddenly paralyzed by fear after spotting the cat's tail.

“That berry looks amazing, but that cat will catch me if I make even a tiny rustle. I have to stay invisible!”
💡 Characters can experience opposite emotions at the same time: Desire vs. Fear!

Common Misconception to Correct: 5th graders often summarize what the animal did (e.g., "She smelled the pole") instead of inferring what the animal was feeling (e.g., "She was curious"). Remind students that an inference must interpret the meaning behind the physical clues!
