Teacher Tips for Independent Workstations
Sand Timers or Digital Stopwatches:
Place 1-minute sand timers or simple digital timers at the station so students can self-time their 1-minute fluency reads without teacher assistance.
Whisper Phones:
Encourage students to use PVC whisper phones during solo fluency reading. Hearing their own voices helps them spot pauses and smooth out robotic phrasing.
Color-Coded Self Checking:
Provide an answer key folder at the station so students can use a colored pen (green or purple) to check and correct their comprehension answers on Day 5.
