Dracula is a character in a famous book written by Bram Stoker in 1897. He is a vampire, a creature from folklore that stays alive by drinking the blood of living people. In the stories, Dracula lives in a big, old castle in Transylvania. He has special powers: he is very strong, he can turn into a bat, and he can control the weather. People celebrate World Dracula Day on May 26th to remember this famous story.
Passage B: Bram Stoker's Dracula (Excerpt) Chapter 1: The Arrival
"Within, stood a tall old man, clean shaven save for a long white moustache, and clad in black from head to foot, without a single speck of colour about him anywhere... The court was all in shadow ... I could hear the horses breathing and pawing... The light of the lamp fell on his pale face. His eyebrows were very massive, almost meeting over the nose. His ears were pale and at the tops extremely pointed; the chin was broad and strong, and the cheeks firm though thin."

The Count's Secret Cape
Follow these instructions to create a "Secret Message" silhouette. Materials: 1 sheet of paper, scissors, tape, markers.

Fold: Take your paper and fold both outer edges inward so they meet in the middle. This creates a "cape" that opens.

Design: On the outside of the cape, use black markers to draw Gothic patterns and "World Dracula Day."

Reveal: Open the cape. Inside, you will write your descriptive story using the sentence stems below.
