Fern raised her hand, trying to block it with a basic defense barrier, but the force was too heavy. The ground exploded in dirt and fire. Frieren stepped forward, her white hair flying in the wind. She breathed deeply, focusing her magic.
She had spent decades studying Qual's dark spells. With a wave of her staff, she cast a giant barrier of glowing golden light. The dark blast slammed into her golden shield, creating a shower of sparkling magical embers.
