Explicit Multisensory Steps & Teacher Verbal Prompts
1. Visual & Auditory Kinesthetic Drill
Show flashcard. "Eyes on card. Sound?" Students vocalize sound. In auditory drill: "Pencils down, sand trays ready. Sound is /sh/. Echo?" Students echo: "/sh/", then trace while stating: "s-h says /sh/".
2. Finger-Tapping Routine (SOS)
Use non-dominant hand. Thumb to index finger for sound 1, middle for sound 2, ring for sound 3. Note: Digraphs get 1 tap (2 letters, 1 sound). Glued sounds get welded tap (2-3 fingers pressed together).
3. High-Frequency Words in Phrases
High-frequency words are identified by heart-part recognition. Model reading in scoops rather than chopped words. "Read with your eyes first. Scoop the whole phrase smoothly."
4. Connected Decodable Text Routine
1st Read: Whisper reading for accuracy; teacher monitors. 2nd Read: Choral or partner read for phrasing. 3rd Read: Fact check & evidence retrieval about worldwide schools.
