Introduction & Hook
Display first slide of the Slide Deck .
Ask: "What's your favorite animal and why?" Allow a few students to share.
Introduce the concept: "Today, we're going to learn how to write about our opinions and convince others why our ideas are great!"

Go through Slides 2-4 .
Define Opinion (thought/feeling) vs. Reasons (why).
Introduce Supporting Details (facts/examples).
Use the class example provided on the slide to model the difference between a reason and a detail.

Guided Practice: Brainstorm
Distribute the Worksheet and show Slide 5 .
Lead the "Should students have homework?" brainstorm.
Guide students to state an opinion and identify two reasons + supporting details.
Circulate to check that "supporting details" are specific examples, not just more reasons.
