Everyday Adventure
The Big Backyard Splash
Story
When the afternoon thunderstorm finally drifted away, bright sunshine peeked through the gray clouds. Sam had been waiting by the living room window all day. He eagerly pulled on his favorite red rubber boots, zipped up his raincoat, and pushed open the back door.
Outside, the fresh air smelled clean and cool. Sam’s brown puppy, Milo, scampered down the wooden steps and dashed onto the squishy green lawn. Milo stopped to sniff a shiny fallen leaf, his tail wagging back and forth with excitement.
Just past the garden gate, beside the old oak tree, Sam spotted the biggest puddle he had ever seen. The dark water stretched across the dirt path, its surface rippling gently in the soft breeze. It looked like a miniature lake waiting to be explored.
Sam took three quick strides forward and leaped high into the air. SPLASH! He landed right in the deep center. A giant spray of water flew up into the air, soaking his boots, splashing his jeans, and dotting Milo’s floppy ears.
Milo gave a joyful bark, leaped into the shallow edge, and shook droplets everywhere. Up on the back porch, Mom pushed open the screen door holding two fluffy towels. She laughed aloud and said, “It looks like you two discovered quite an adventure in our yard today!”
