Weather Word Wizards

A 10-day reading intervention sequence focusing on phonics and decoding skills, connected by stories about weather and seasons. Each day introduces a specific phonetic pattern alongside an engaging, themed decodable text.

Wet Wind

Day 1 of the reading intervention focuses on short vowels and consonant blends (CCVC/CVCC). Students practice blending and decode 'The Wet Wind' to explore a blustery autumn day.

Pale Lake

Day 2 of the reading intervention focuses on Silent e (CVCe long vowels). Students practice decoding split digraphs and read about a hot summer day at 'The Pale Lake'.

Deep Freeze

Day 3 of the reading intervention focuses on the vowel digraphs 'ee' and 'ea' (long e). Students read about a chilly winter day in 'The Deep Freeze'.

Gray Rain

Day 4 of the reading intervention focuses on the vowel digraphs 'ai' and 'ay' (long a). Students practice blending and read about a wet spring day in 'The Gray Rain'.

Cold Blow

Day 5 of the reading intervention focuses on the vowel digraphs 'oa' and 'ow' (long o). Students decode words and read about a winter windstorm in 'The Cold Blow'.

Dark Storm

Day 6 of the reading intervention focuses on R-controlled vowels 'ar' and 'or'. Students decode words and read about a summer thunderstorm in 'The Dark Storm'.

First Chirp

Day 7 of the reading intervention focuses on R-controlled vowels 'er', 'ir', and 'ur'. Students practice decoding and read about spring animals in 'First Chirp'.

Loud Clouds

Day 8 of the reading intervention focuses on the diphthongs 'ou' and 'ow' (howling sounds). Students read about storm clouds gathering in 'Loud Clouds'.

Soil Joy

Day 9 of the reading intervention focuses on the diphthongs 'oi' and 'oy'. Students practice word identification and read about spring planting in 'Soil Joy'.

Great Shift

Day 10 of the reading intervention is a review of complex consonant digraphs and trigraphs (ch, sh, th, -tch, -dge). Students read about seasonal transitions in 'The Great Shift'.
