Mission Goal
Students will master the formation of uppercase letters L, F, E, H, T, and I. These letters are grouped because they use only vertical and horizontal strokes and all start at the "Starting Corner" (top left).

The "Frog Jump"
"Frog jump" means picking the pencil up and returning to the starting point. Physicalize this! Have students make a small hopping motion with their fingers when they "jump" back to the top star.

For struggling writers: Use a "Wet-Dry-Try" method on a small chalkboard if available.

The Logic
In this lesson, we introduce curves. We use the same starting movement (Big Line Down) as Lesson 1, but add the "Frog Jump" to return to the top corner. This maintains the habit of starting at the top.

Why "Magic C"?
The Magic C is a foundational stroke. Instead of teaching these as isolated shapes, we show students that O, Q, G, and S all "start like a C". This reduces the memory load and helps prevent reversals.
The Script
Letter Verbal Formation Cues C "Start at the star. Curve back and around to the bottom." O "Magic C... keep going around until you close the circle." Q "Magic C... keep going to make an O. Then add a little kick at the bottom." G "Magic C... keep going up to the middle... then pull a little line inside." S "Start at the star. Little Magic C... then turn and curve the other way!"
Observation Checklist
Does the student start below the top line to allow for the upward curve?
Is the direction of the curve counter-clockwise? (Magic C always curves left).
For S, is the middle "turn" happening at the waistline?
Game Tip
"The Frozen C": Play a game where you call out letters. If you say "Magic C," they start the curve and FREEZE halfway. Then you shout "Shapeshift into an O!" or "Shapeshift into a G!"
This builds cognitive flexibility and reinforces the shared starting stroke.

The Slanted Secret
Diagonal letters are often the hardest for children because they require oblique motor control. Use the word "Slide" to help them distinguish from the vertical "Big Lines" of Lesson 1.

Common Hurdles
The "Straight" Trap: Students may try to make the first line of a V straight down. Remind them: "It's a slide, not an elevator!"
Center Confusion: For K, Y, and X, students struggle to find the exact middle. You can place a small "Middle Dot" on their page to help.
Magic Challenge
"The Human Slide": Have students stand up and use their whole arm to "slide" down an imaginary mountain in the air. This gross motor movement helps build the neural pathways for diagonals.

The "N" Trap
Many students struggle with the final vertical line of the N. They often try to pull it down from the top. Remind them to push it UP from the bottom corner for better control.
