Echo Echo Slides THE R.A.C.E. STRATEGY
ECHO ECHO
Mastering the R: How to restate any prompt and build a rock-solid starting sentence.
STAGE 1: RESTATE THE QUESTION
Let's Begin
The Echo Effect
01 / 05
1
The Prompt Screams
The question calls out into a deep cave. It is looking for its matching answer.
2
Your Sentence Echoes
You catch the words, flip them around, and throw them right back. No new information yet—just the echo!
Why Restate?
It gives your reader instant context.
It keeps your writing on topic.
It sounds professional and authoritative.
R.A.C.E. Strategy • Step 1: Restate
How to Flip It
02 / 05
Step 01
Chop & Drop
Locate the question words like What, Why, Who, or How. Chop them off!
Destroy the questions!
Step 02
The Pronoun Flip
Change words that point to you into words that point to your answer. Flip you/your to I/my.
Reverse the point of view!
Step 03
Rebuild & End
Put the remaining words together, add a linking verb like is or are, and leave space to explain.
Perfect sentence starter!
No raw answers allowed. Build the bridge first!
Let's Try One Together
03 / 05
The Prompt
"What is your favorite animal at the zoo?"
Chop the helper question word What is .
Flip the pronoun your to my .
Keep the rest of the words exactly the same!
Add your verb is back to the end.
The Echo Sentence
"My favorite animal at the zoo is ..."
Look at how those question words recycled into an answer bridge!
Leveling Up: The "Why" Question
04 / 05
Sometimes prompts don't use simple "What" or "Who". Let's look at a Why prompt. These require adding the magic bridge word: because .
The Prompt
"Why do birds fly south for the winter?"
We drop Why and the helper verb do .
Start with the remaining words: "Birds fly south for the winter..."
Add "because" to complete the R stage.
Your Answer Starter
"Birds fly south for the winter because ..."
Notice how we didn't start with "Because..."! Start with the echo first.
Benchmark Boss: Monster Prompts
05 / 05
On benchmarks, questions are long and scary. Don't panic! Use the exact same strategy.
Benchmark Prompt
"Based on the text, how does the main character, Leo, solve his problem with the missing key?"
How to attack this:
Keep context: "Based on the text..."
Drop helper words: how does
Flip verb solve to solves
Your Answer Starter
"Based on the text, the main character, Leo, solves his problem with the missing key by ..."
No matter how big the prompt is, the Echo Strategy always wins!

100-Word Passage
"The Golden Acorn"
Rusty was the smallest scout squirrel in Whisper Wood. Today, he faced his biggest test. High at the top of the swaying Great Oak sat the legendary Golden Acorn. The wind howled furiously, making the branches whip like wild ropes. Older squirrels turned back in fear, but Rusty took a deep breath. He held tightly to the rough bark and scrambled upward. With a brave leap, he snatched the acorn just as a gust of wind roared through. Rusty proved that true courage is not about your size, but about the size of your heart.
