Earth has many massive volcanoes, like Mount Fuji or Hawaii's volcanoes. But the largest volcano in our entire solar system is on the planet Mars! It is called Olympus Mons. Olympus Mons is a special kind of volcano called a shield volcano. It grew flat and wide over millions of years as lava spilled down its sides. It is so huge that it is three times taller than Mount Everest! If you placed it on Earth, it would cover the entire state of Arizona. Because Mars has no moving tectonic plates like Earth does, the hot magma beneath the crust kept erupting in the exact same spot, building this monster volcano.
