The Secret at Moonlight Brook

A cheerful boy named Roy took his brown hound, Brownie, down to the cool woods by Moonlight Brook. Roy stood on the soft ground near an old wooden log. Sunlight faded, and the bright round moon began to bloom in the sky. Roy pulled his warm woolen hood over his head to keep out the chilly air.
Suddenly, Brownie let out a loud howl and began to dig into the damp, dark soil. Roy ran to join him. "What did you spot in the dirt, boy?" Roy asked in an excited voice. Brownie pointed his wet snout toward a shiny round coin resting right near a big tree root. It looked like pure gold!
Just then, a brown owl perched on a high wooden branch and gave a soft hoot into the night. Roy looked up at the owl, then took a wooden scoop from his tool pack. He did not want to spoil the treasure. He carefully scooped the heavy coin out of the wet mud and wiped away the loose soil.
Roy felt so much joy! He shouted with delight and gave his hound a gentle pat. Together, they hurried out of the woods and walked back to their town house. Roy took the neat coin to his bedroom, washed it in a cool pool of water, and placed it on a wooden stool. It was a good night of sound detective work!
