Uses "Like" or "As" • Usa "Como"
Compares two different things using the signal words "LIKE" or "AS".
Compara dos cosas diferentes usando las palabras clave "como" o "tal como".
Examples / Ejemplos:
• "They skip over puddles like little frogs in a pond."
(Saltan sobre los charcos como ranitas en un estanque.)
• "He was as quiet as a sleeping mouse."

METAPHOR
La Metáfora
Direct Comparison • NO "Like" or "As"
States that one thing IS another thing directly. It does NOT use "like" or "as"!
Dice directamente que una cosa ES otra. ¡NO usa la palabra "como"!
Examples / Ejemplos:
• "You are my sunshine when skies are gray."
(Tú eres mi sol cuando los cielos están grises.)
• "The classroom was a wild zoo before the bell."

Personificación
Human Actions • Acciones Humanas
Giving HUMAN QUALITIES, feelings, or actions to non-human objects or nature.
Dar cualidades o acciones humanas a objetos inanimados o a la naturaleza.
Examples / Ejemplos:
• "The happy book jumped for joy on the desk."
(El libro feliz saltó de alegría en el escritorio.)
• "The cold wind screamed and howled all night."
(El viento frío gritó y aulló durante toda la noche.)
