The Blueprint: Simple vs. Compound Sentences
Simple Sentence 1 Independent Clause
Has one complete thought with a subject and predicate. It can stand completely on its own.
Example The storm rattled the wooden shutters.
Compound Sentence 2 Independent Clauses
Joins two complete thoughts using a comma and a coordinating conjunction.
Example The storm rattled the shutters**, and** the power flickered out.
