Clue Set 1: Same vs. Opposite

SYNONYMS Same or Similar
Words that share nearly identical meanings.
huge → gigantic
"The huge dog was truly gigantic."
furious → angry
"He was furious when the puzzle fell."
Trick: "S" for Synonym = "S" for Same!
ANTONYMS Exact Opposites
Words with reverse or opposite meanings.
freeze ↔ melt
"Ponds freeze in winter and melt in spring."
ancient ↔ modern
"We saw ancient relics and modern art."
Trick: "A" for Antonym = "A" for Against (opposite)!
Detective Tip: Read the whole sentence! Context reveals if a word matches or opposes!
Clue Set 2: Homonyms (Sound Twins)

Words that SOUND the same, but have different spellings and different meanings!
knight / night
Knight (k-n-i-g-h-t)
A brave warrior in metal armor.
Night (n-i-g-h-t)
The dark time after sunset.
"The knight rode into the night."
pair / pear
Pair (p-a-i-r)
Two matching items (shoes).
Pear (p-e-a-r)
A sweet, juicy green fruit.
"She ate a pear in her new pair of boots."
flour / flower
Flour (f-l-o-u-r)
White powder used for baking.
Flower (f-l-o-w-e-r)
A colorful blooming blossom.
"Use flour to bake flower cookies."
Look at the letters! Same sound, but spelling gives the true meaning away!

A salty water drop from crying.
"A happy tear rolled down her cheek."

To rip or pull paper or cloth apart.
"Do not tear the poster on the wall."
Homograph clue: "-graph" means written. They are written identically!
Clue Set 4: Multiple-Meaning Words

One word wears different hats! The exact same word takes on completely different jobs in context!
Word 1: PUZZLE
Meaning A (Noun)
A game with interlocking cardboard pieces.
"We finished the 500-piece puzzle."
Meaning B (Verb)
To confuse, baffle, or stump someone.
"The mystery tracks will puzzle detectives."
Word 2: FIRE
Meaning A (Noun)
Flames that produce bright heat and light.
"Campers sat around the warm fire."
Meaning B (Verb)
To launch or shoot an arrow or projectile.
"The archer prepared to fire the arrow."
Strategy: Substitute each definition into the sentence to test which one fits!
