1
Explicit Modeling & Comic Contrast ("I Do" • 10 Mins)
Story Voice Slides 1–4
Hook & Non-Example: Read a sentence like a rushing cheetah (garbled, breath-deprived) and a sleepy snail (staccato robot). Ask: "Did that sound like a story storyteller?"
Define the 3 Superpowers: Introduce Accuracy, Goldilocks Pace, and Expression.
Punctuation Road Signs: Use arm gestures—drop hand down for period (.), push chin up for question (?), and two jazz hands for exclamation (!).
2
Choral & Echo Guided Practice ("We Do" • 10 Mins)
Slide 5 ("Pip and the Big Box")
Echo Reading Pass: Teacher reads line 1 with dramatic inflection; students immediately mirror pitch, cadence, and pause length.
Choral Reading Pass: Entire class reads in unison while tracking the display pointer. Keep pace steady like a shared heartbeat.
Self-Correction Check: Intentionally misread "tap" as "top". Pause and model: "Wait, does 'Pip gave the box a top' make sense? Let me look at the middle vowel sound: /ă/ /p/ -> tap!"
3
Partner Coaching Workshop ("You Do" • 15 Mins)
Story Voice Practice Sheet
Setup: Pair stronger readers with developing readers (or balanced dyads). Assign Reader 1 & Reader 2.
