Common Misconceptions & Fixes
1. Mixing "was" and "were"
Students often select "were" for singular or "was" for plural due to phonics similarities. Remedy: Direct them to look at the noun. Sing: "One cat was, two cats were!" Keep grammar rules physical with hand gestures.
2. Mixing "they" and "then"
The initial /th/ sound is dominant; early readers guess based on the 'th' prefix. Remedy: Highlight the tail ends. "They ends in -y, like pointing to a guy. Then ends in -n, like what happens next!"
