Pizza PIE Debate
Project Slide 2. Ask: "Give me one FACT about pizza and one OPINION about pizza." Discuss how authors use facts and opinions for different reasons.

The Taste Test (Video Viewing)
Play the video. Pause at 1:58, 3:28, and 4:21. Have students find the corresponding passage in Part A of their worksheet. They should highlight "clue words" (opinions, dates, narrative descriptions) alongside the video narrator.
Pro-tip: Pause at 7:27 for the characteristics sorting activity before the narrator reveals the answers.

Students work independently on Part B of the worksheet. They must analyze three new passages, identify clue words, and circle the matching slice of PIE.

Distribute the exit tickets. Students write one persuasive sentence and one informative sentence about their school to demonstrate mastery of the two main nonfiction purposes.
