By mid-3rd grade, students should comfortably read on-level text at 90–115+ words correct per minute (WCPM) with natural phrasing and prosody. These five stations isolate and strengthen the core subskills: rapid decoding, phrase grouping, visual scooping, and automatic word retrieval.

Partner Coaching Rules
3-Second Rule: If your partner hesitates on a word for 3 seconds, supply the word gently and circle it.Positive Praise: Coach says: "Great expression on that question!" or "Your scoops sounded smooth!" No Laughing: Errors are learning checkpoints; partner coaches patiently.
Differentiation & Support
Support (Developing): Allow echo-reading first before timed sprint; use highlighter to mark syllables.Extension (Advanced): Have students read with recorded audio or perform passages as dramatic radio readers.Materials Prep: Laminate or slip Station 2 and 4 sheets into clear sleeves for reuse with dry-erase markers.
