Target Objective

Present temporary vs. permanent cards. Challenge class to sort physical characteristics, traits, and fleeting emotions.
10-25 M
Direct Briefing (Slides 1-3)
Introduce the core definitions of Trait (personality, slow to change) and Emotion (temporary, fast-shifting) using the F.A.S.T. acronym.
25-40 M
Guided Investigation (Slides 4-5)
Read "Suki's Big Stage". Annotate clues live. Categorize Suki's nervous feeling vs. her courageous and resilient traits.

40-55 M Independent Work
Distribute Case File Worksheets . Detectives read "The Mysterious New Neighbor" and "The Sore Loser" independently.
Teacher Walk: Look for students confusing temporary moods ("scared" in first paragraph) with permanent character traits ("brave" or "friendly" over the whole passage).
55-60 M Case Debrief & Exit
Call students to "HQ" (whole group). Review the clues together. Pass out the exit ticket to lock in evidence of mastery.
