Silver the heron landed softly by the edge of the blue pond. He was a tall bird with very long, thin legs. These legs let him walk into the deep water without making a single splash. To the fish in the pond, Silver looked just like a bunch of tall grass.
He stood very, very still. He did not move a single feather. Silver was a master of patience. He watched the yellow light of the sun dance on the water. Suddenly, he saw something move. A small, shiny fish swam near his feet. The fish did not see the big bird standing there.
Silver slowly lowered his long, graceful neck. He moved like a quiet shadow. His golden eyes were fixed on the fish. He waited for just the right second. The fish stopped to look for a snack of its own. It was time!
With a flash of speed, Silver’s neck shot forward. His long, sharp beak snapped shut like a pair of wooden scissors. He had the fish! It was a very good catch. Silver tossed the fish into the air and swallowed it in one big, happy gulp.
Now, Silver was full. He shook his grey and blue feathers. He gave a loud, croaking "crank" sound to say hello to the sun. With a big flap of his wide, strong wings, he lifted off into the sky. He would find another pond to visit tomorrow. The Blue Ghost was gone.
