Once in a desolate land lived a husband and wife who built their home beside a high, menacing stone wall. On the other side lay a garden belonging to a formidable woman—an interesting, isolated lady whom many whispered was a witch. She harbored a strange, consuming desire to adopt children, yet she held a dark rule: those she took in were locked away, never permitted to see the sun.
When the wife became pregnant, she grew obsessed with the vibrant, blooming rampions in the witch's garden. An ancient secret lingered in the soil: anyone who ate of these rampions during pregnancy would be blessed with the most breathtakingly beautiful child in the world. The craving consumed her. She grew pale, weak, and close to death, refusing all sustenance except for the forbidden herb.
Her husband knew the witch departed at sunset—at exactly 6:37 pm—and returned at 9:23 pm. Desperate to save his wife, he waited until she left, then scaled the high wall, snatched the glistening rampions, and fled back to his dying wife.

Chapter II: The Dark Bargain Vines & Thorns

The magical rampion worked instantly. Within days, the mother felt her unborn baby growing radiant, but a shadow already hung over their hearth. They had an older daughter, Cassandra, who was only two. Yet, the parents cared nothing for her. Cassandra was neglected, starved, and forced to perform grueling chores in the dead of night, her fragile skin map-marked by dark bruises.
When she whimpered for food, her parents shooed her away: *“We must care for your mother first!”* She was lucky to steal a single green bean. Yet, because of her parents' sweet, deceptively innocent public act, the villagers simply dismissed Cassandra as an extraordinarily clumsy child.
Soon, the mother demanded more rampion. The husband scaled the wall once more, but this time, the witch was waiting. With a cold steel knife pressed against his throat, she demanded to know why he dared steal. Terrified, he begged for his life, promising *anything*. The witch smiled, sensing his greed and deceit. "I want both of your daughters," she hissed. He agreed instantly. When the newborn was delivered, the parents callously threw the bruised two-year-old Cassandra at the witch and carefully handed over the infant.

Chapter III: The Sanctuary of the Tower Vines & Thorns

In the witch’s dark castle, Cassandra finally found what she had been denied at home: food, warmth, and sleep. The witch had seen the cruel bruises left by the biological parents and was moved to pity. She cursed the parents from her high parapets and made Cassandra her favorite forever. Cassandra felt far safer with the witch than she ever had with her own flesh and blood.
Years passed in isolation. Rapunzel, the newborn, grew to sixteen, her locks of spun gold stretching long and magical. Cassandra grew to eighteen, quiet, protective, and domestic. One afternoon, while Cassandra was in the castle kitchen preparing dinner, a wandering nobleman snuck into the garden and stumbled upon Rapunzel singing.
Charmed by her beauty, the man proposed marriage instantly. Without hesitation, Rapunzel agreed. For days, they met in secret while Cassandra cooked. But soon, Rapunzel began to feel terribly ill, her body growing strangely heavy and round. When the witch came home, Rapunzel naively asked why her clothes felt so tight. Enraged by the betrayal, the witch slapped Rapunzel repeatedly until her face was numb, chopped off her golden hair, and banished her to wander the harsh, empty desert forever.

Chapter IV: The Fall into the Swamp Vines & Thorns

The next evening, the prince returned to the base of the tower. "Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your hair!" he called. The witch, holding the severed golden braid, flung it out the window. The prince climbed eagerly, only to find the witch's twisted face waiting. She shrieked in fury. Disturbed by the noise, Cassandra hurried into the chamber, but the witch snarled, *“Nothing! Go back to your room!”* Never had Cassandra seen her "mother" so utterly consumed by madness.
With a violent shove, the witch pushed the prince out the high window. He plummeted toward a deep, murky swamp teeming with hungry alligators. Desperate, the prince managed to catch himself on a thick branch just above the snapping jaws.
Seeing him survive, the witch grabbed a heavy cast-iron cooking pan and hurled it down with perfect precision. The blow struck him, knocking him directly into the swamp. He scrambled frantically, escaping the murky water with his life, though one of his legs was terribly bitten and mangled. Bleeding heavily and screaming in pain, he dragged himself away, destined to wander the barren wilderness for years in search of his lost love.

Chapter V: Reunion in the Sands Vines & Thorns

Years turned into a grueling blur of agony. The prince, near death from the wound that had never properly healed, staggered through the desert. Just as his eyes began to fail and the bleeding threatened to take his life, a sweet melody drifted across the dunes. It was the beautiful, haunting voice he would recognize anywhere—Rapunzel was singing.
He crawled toward the sound and found her in a small oasis, tenderly caring for healthy, beautiful twin infants. Rapunzel looked up and let out a gasp. Her long, luscious golden hair had fully grown back to its majestic length.
Sobbing with joy, she threw her arms around his neck. As her tears splashed onto his ruined leg, a brilliant warmth rushed through his veins. The magic of her pure love healed his leg completely. Rejoicing, they began the long journey back to his kingdom. Yet, their homecoming was bitter. When they arrived, the king—furious that his son had ruined his life over a nameless girl—banished them from the land. The prince begged and pleaded, until his father finally relented and let them stay.

Chapter VI: The Sharks of Alcatrast Vines & Thorns

Word of the prince’s return and his new wealth soon reached the ears of the bitter witch. Consumed by greed, she formulated a dark plan to poison the entire royal court and seize their immense fortune. But her plan failed miserably. Guard dogs intercepted the poisoned vial, and the witch was arrested and sentenced to life without parole in the inescapable, water-locked Alcatrast Prison.
Desperate, the witch attempted a daring escape into the freezing, shark-infested waters surrounding the island. She swam in her bright pink jumpsuit, but it was a fatal mistake. When sharks see pink, they mistake you for a fish and devour you. She was instantly eaten by the circling sharks.
Far away, back in the quiet, abandoned castle, Cassandra sat by the hearth. She was entirely alone, waiting and waiting for her beloved "mother" to return, slowly wasting away from lack of food and water.

Chapter VII: Sisterhood Restored Vines & Thorns

Tragedy still lingered for the young royals. In the years that followed, they tragically lost one of their beloved children to scarlet fever and smallpox. Yet, their remaining children grew into stunning, gorgeous young adults. The bitter local villagers, envious of the family's radiant children and immense wealth, made multiple attempts to kidnap and harm them. Fortunately, the royal guards apprehended the criminals and locked them away forever.
One winter afternoon, Rapunzel made the faithful decision to return to the abandoned tower to find her older sister. There, she discovered Cassandra in a state of extreme neglect, barely alive.
Rapunzel quickly summoned an ambulance of royal healers. They rushed Cassandra to the palace, where she was nursed back to health. Cassandra lived out the rest of her days surrounded by love, declared the most devoted and beloved aunt in the entire kingdom. While their biological parents continued to rot in their own bitter resentment, and the witch remained at the bottom of the pink-stained ocean, the two sisters finally found their true, peaceful home—together at last.
