My Signature Move (Strongest Skill)
e.g., Creative writing, speaking, debating
My Goals for this Season (In ELA & Beyond)
Write 1-2 goals you want to score this year...
PART 2: THE PRE-GAME RITUAL

On top of your desk, lay out: your English folder, your agenda, and your independent _____________________ novel.
Pencil Position:
Place your pencil/pen in the _____________________ at the top of your desk when not in use.
Pencil Breaks & Sharpener Rules:

Tactical Reflection
Why is it critical to enter the room, get set up immediately, and have a sharp pencil without interrupting the team?

STATION A
Reading Capacity Check
Elite athletes and world-class scholars share a hidden secret: repetition builds hardwired neural pathways. When you practice a routine—like setting up your desk in exactly 60 seconds or annotating as you read—your brain constructs a thick layer of myelin around your nerves. This protective layer acts like high-speed insulation. The more times you run the play correctly, the faster and more natural that behavior becomes. Soon, tasks that used to drain your energy happen on pure autopilot, reserving your mental battery power for high-intensity analytical thinking.
1. What does myelin act like in the brain?
A high-speed insulation A source of physical energy A barrier to memory
2. In your own words, infer why automatic habits help us do better thinking:
STATION B
Writing Sprint
Prompt: Draft your ELA Victory Speech. Imagine it is June 2027. You have achieved your academic goals. Write a quick paragraph explaining how you got here. (Write in complete sentences!)
STATION C
Speaking & Listening Huddle
Partner Playbook Instructions:
- Find an adjacent player (partner).
- Deliver your 30-second Victory Speech idea.
- Listen carefully to your partner's game plan.
Listening Assessment Check:
Rate your partner's active listening. Did they:
Keep active eye contact Nod/React to your ideas Ask a follow-up question

Target Mission & Setting
This lesson plan is designed for a **mixed 7th/8th grade Replacement ELA classroom**.
