The Whispering Woods Rescue
Rusty was a tiny red squirrel with a bushy tail who lived in the highest branches of a grand oak tree. One chilly autumn morning, as he gathered acorns for winter, he heard a soft, sad crying sound coming from the leafy forest floor. He scrambled down the rough bark and found Pip, a small striped chipmunk, huddled shivering under a large, fallen maple leaf.
Pip looked up with tearful eyes and explained that he had wandered too far from his cozy underground burrow while searching for sweet hazel seeds. Now, the forest path was covered in freshly fallen golden leaves, and he could not find his way back home. Rusty smiled kindly and promised to help his small friend, knowing the layout of the woods better than anyone else.
Rusty leaped up onto a low pine branch to get a better view above the ground. He spotted a giant, moss-covered rock near the winding creek, which he knew was right next to Pip’s burrow. Leaping gracefully from tree to tree, Rusty guided Pip along the safe path below until they finally reached the familiar mossy rock and Pip's happy family.

Instead of shouting or storming off, Maya took a deep, calming breath and looked at Leo’s disappointed face. Leo hesitated but then smiled, proposing that they combine their favorite games of kickball and catch into a brand-new game.
They spent the rest of recess laughing as they took turns kicking high, spinning passes and diving to make spectacular catches. Seeing how much fun they were having, two lonely classmates standing near the swings walked over to watch.
