Administration Directions & Verbatim Script
Part 1 (Word Reading - Decoding):
- Place the student checkpoint sheet in front of the student.
- Prompt: "Look at each word and read it out loud. Read across rows." (Point to 1: cat).
- Allow 3–5 seconds per word. If the student segments sounds, cue: "Blend it."
- Score 1 pt for accurate whole-word reading. Note any vowel substitutions.
Part 2 (Sentence Dictation - Encoding):
- Read sentence aloud once: "The pet dog sat in a tub."
- Students repeat in unison while finger-counting 7 words.
- Read once more in phrases: "The pet dog... sat in a tub."
- Students write on primary guidelines and self-monitor with checkboxes.
