Introduction and Discussion

10 Minutes

Introduce the core concept: Effort can often be more impactful than talent alone.
Display the Effort and Success Stories Slide-Deck to provide concrete real-life examples (Edison, Rowling).
Discussion Prompt: Ask students to share a time they worked hard to learn something that was difficult at first.

The Great Debate

15 Minutes

Split the class into two teams: Team Talent and Team Effort.
Ask Team Talent to think of reasons why being "born with it" helps, and Team Effort to think of why "hard work" matters more.
Facilitate a structured debate. Use prompts: "What happens when a talented person stops trying?" or "How does effort help someone who feels they aren't 'naturally good' at something?"
Teacher Note: Guide the conversation toward the conclusion that talent without effort is limited, but effort creates growth.

Effort Challenge & Reflection

15 Minutes

Transition to the Effort Challenge Activity. Set a timer and monitor groups as they face obstacles.
Encourage "productive struggle" - don't jump in too quickly to help.
Conclude with the Effort Reflection Cool-Down worksheet to solidify learning.

Support & Extension

Support: Provide sentence stems for the debate and reflection (e.g., "Effort is important because...").

Extension: Challenge students to research another "Effort Icon" and present their story briefly to the class tomorrow.
