The Expedition Mission

This lesson engages 3rd-grade students in a team-building scavenger hunt designed to enhance collaboration and communication skills. Through experiential and collaborative learning strategies, students will work together to solve clues and complete tasks, fostering a sense of teamwork and cooperation.

Gather the Expedition Teams

Gather students in a circle and explain the mission: solve clues and work together.
Discuss teamwork: Why do we achieve more when we work together?
Go over the "Rules of the Trail" (No running, stay with your team, listen to all voices).

Teams

Form Scouting Parties

Divide students into groups of 4-5.
Try to mix different personalities and skills (e.g., quiet thinkers, energetic leaders).

Hunt

The Great Adventure

Distribute the first clue card to each team.
Teams work together to solve the riddle and navigate to the next location.
Continue through 5-6 clues. Circulate to ensure students are sharing ideas fairly.

Base Camp Reflection

Gather back in a circle. Share highlights and "Teamwork Wins."
Reflection Question: "When did your team get stuck? How did you help each other?"
Distribute small prizes for participation and effort.

Pre-Expedition Prep

Place Clue 2 in the Library/Media Center.

Place Clue 3 on the Playground/Field.

Place Clue 4 in the Art Room.

Place Clue 5 in the Cafeteria.

Place Clue 6 in the Main Office.

Print and cut all clue cards.
