Teacher Script

Warm-Up: What Makes a Friend? (5 Minutes)

Teacher: "Good morning, wonderful kindergarteners! Let's start our day with a quick question. What do you think makes a good friend? Turn and talk to a partner for a moment, then we'll share some ideas!"

Allow students to share. Call on a few students to share their responses with the class.

Teacher: "Those are fantastic ideas! Being a good friend means being kind, sharing, and helping. Well, just like we can be good friends, we can also be good characters in our school! Being a good character means we do things that make our school a happy, safe, and kind place for everyone to learn and play. Today, we're going to talk about how each one of you can be a shining star of good character!"

SHOW SLIDE 1

Being Kind

Teacher: "Our first way to be a good character is to Be Kind! What does it mean to be kind? It means using nice words, sharing your toys, and even giving someone a high-five when they're feeling good! Can anyone think of a time they were kind or saw someone being kind?"

Allow a few responses. Show Good Character Card 1 ("Using kind words").

Teacher: "That's right! Kindness makes everyone feel special. Let's look at our first Good Character Card. Is this a good character action? Thumbs up for yes, thumbs down for no!"

Helping Others

Teacher: "Another super way to be a good character is to Help Others! Helping means noticing when someone needs a hand. Maybe picking up a crayon someone dropped, holding the door open, or comforting a friend who is sad. Who likes to help? What's one way you can help someone today?"

Allow responses. Show Good Character Card 4 ("Not helping a friend").

Teacher: "Wonderful! Helping makes our school a team. Let's look at another card. Thumbs up or thumbs down?"

Sharing What You Have

Teacher: "Our next good character trait is Sharing What You Have! This means sharing your toys, your crayons, and even your listening ears when it's someone else's turn to talk. Why do you think sharing is important?"

Allow responses. Show Good Character Card 6 ("Keeping all the blocks").

Teacher: "Exactly! Sharing makes sure everyone gets a turn and feels included. Thumbs up or thumbs down for this card?"

Being a Good Listener

Teacher: "Finally, a very important part of good character is Being a Good Listener! This means looking at the person who is talking, staying quiet, and raising your hand if you want to speak. When we listen, we learn so much! Can you show me what a good listener looks like?"

Have students demonstrate. Show Good Character Card 8 ("Talking loudly").

Teacher: "Great listening, everyone! Let's check our last card. Thumbs up or thumbs down?"

Character Star Activity (10 Minutes)

Teacher: "Now it's your turn to show me how you can be a good character! I'm going to give each of you a Character Star Worksheet. Each point on your star is a place for you to draw or write one way you can show good character in our school. You can draw yourself sharing, or helping a friend, or using kind words! Take your time and make your star shine bright!"

Distribute worksheets and coloring supplies. Circulate, offering help and prompting students.

Closing: You Make Our School Shine! (5 Minutes)

Teacher: "Wow, I see so many amazing ideas on your character stars! Who would like to share one idea from their star with the class? ... Fantastic! Remember, when we are all kind, helpful, sharing, and good listeners, our school is the best place to be! Give yourselves a silent cheer!"
