Conflict vs. Threat

Conflict (Manageable)

"I'm really mad that you told everyone my secret. I don't want to talk to you right now."

Focuses on feelings and boundaries.

Threat (Unsafe)

"You're going to regret what you did. Watch your back tomorrow at lunch."

Implies physical or social harm.

The 'Intent' Myth

Many people say, "I didn't mean it that way" or "It was just a joke."

The Truth: Safety is measured by the impact on the victim and the community, not the intent of the speaker. A threat is a threat, even if it was made in the heat of the moment.

The 5-Second Filter

"Anger is a tunnel. When you're in it, you only see your pain. Wait 5 seconds before hitting send or speaking. If your words imply harm, they are too heavy for our community."

Words have weight. Once dropped, you can't pick them up.

Reading: The Psychology of "Venting"

When we are angry, our brain's "Emotional Center" (the Amygdala) takes over. This part of the brain is designed for survival, not social communication. It often produces "Heavy Words"—words meant to scare others or show power. Many students call this "venting."

The problem is that true venting is sharing your feelings to feel better ("I'm so frustrated right now!"). Threatening is using your words to make someone else feel unsafe. In 8th grade, the line between the two is often crossed on social media. A post that says "Wait until Monday" is not venting; it is a threat that triggers a massive school response, including police and administration.
