Meet Your Brain
SEL Competency
Self-Awareness
Session Objective
Students will understand that the brain is a muscle that grows through effort and will define "Stretchy Thinking" (Growth Mindset).
Success Criteria
- Correctly identify 2 "Stretchy" thoughts.
- Describe how hard work makes brains stronger.
Materials Needed
Mindset Map Worksheet
Large Rubber Band
Crayons/Markers
"Stiff" Block (e.g. LEGO)
0-5m
Warm-Up: Strong Muscles
Welcome the "Resilient Rangers." Ask: "How do you get strong muscles?" Discuss exercise and practice.
"Today we're training the most important muscle: Your Brain! It doesn't grow when things are easy—it grows when you try things that are a little bit hard."
5-15m
Stretchy vs. Stiff
Show the LEGO block (Stiff) and Rubber Band (Stretchy). Define Mindset : The way you talk to yourself.
Demonstration: When we say "I can't do this," our brain is like the block—it stays stiff and doesn't grow. When we say "This is hard, but I'll try," it stretches like the rubber band!
15-25m
Mindset Map Activity
Distribute worksheets. Read thoughts aloud and have students "sort" them into Stiff or Stretchy categories. Allow time for the "My Stretchy Brain" drawing.
25-30m
Closing Circle
Each student shares one thing they want to get better at. End with: "I am a Resilient Ranger with a stretchy brain!"
Differentiation
For students struggling with reading, use hand signals (thumb up for stretchy, thumb down for stiff) during the sort activity.
Growth Language
"I love how hard you're stretching your brain on that problem!"

The Power of Yet
SEL Competency
Self-Management
Session Objective
Students will apply the "Magic Word" (Yet) to reframe frustration and identify specific skills they want to develop.
Success Criteria
- Use "Yet" to finish a sentence.
- Identify 1 personal "Yet" goal.
Materials Needed
Yet Shield Activity Sheet
Whiteboard & Markers
"Magic Yet" Stickers (Optional)
0-5m
Mindset Review
Review Week 1. Ask: "Who used a stretchy thought this week?" Reiterate that hard things grow the brain.
5-15m
The Magic Word
Write "I CAN'T" in big letters. Ask how it feels. Then add YET .
"Adding 'Yet' is like a shield. It protects your brain from giving up. It's not that you can't do it—it's just that you can't do it... yet!"
15-25m
Yet Shield Activity
Hand out worksheets. Model choosing a specific skill (e.g. math, soccer). Help students write their "I can't... YET!" statement on their shield.
25-30m
Shield Ceremony
Students stand and hold their shields. Lead a group chant: "I can't do it... YET!" Ask them to keep this shield in their folder to use when class gets hard.
Teaching Tip: Precision
If a student says "I can't fly," remind them to pick something people can learn. "I can't name all the states... yet!" keeps it realistic and growth-focused.

Disappointment Detectives
SEL Competency
Self-Awareness
Session Objective
Students will identify physical signs of disappointment in their own bodies and understand that it is a temporary feeling.
Success Criteria
- Locate 1 "clue" on their body map.
- Name 2 "detective" signs of big feelings.
Materials Needed
Disappointment Clue Worksheet
Red and Blue Crayons
Magnifying Glass (Prop)
0-5m
Mission Briefing
Ask: "What happens when things don't go your way?" Define disappointment . Introduce the "Mission": Find the hidden body clues.
5-15m
The Body Scan
Lead visualization. "Remember a 'let down' time. Where did it feel heavy? Where did it feel hot?"
"Feelings are like weather—they come and go. When we find the 'body clues' early, we can use our Ranger skills before the storm gets too big."
15-25m
Clue Detective Activity
Students use worksheets. Use Red for hot spots (angry disappointment) and Blue for heavy spots (sad disappointment). Check the clue boxes.
25-30m
Detective Debrief
"Who found a heart clue? A tummy clue?" Remind them: Naming the feeling takes away its secret power. "I feel disappointed right now" is a stretchy thought!
Teacher Tip: Normalization
"Be careful not to label disappointment as 'bad.' It's just a feeling that lets us know we care about something. It's a natural part of being a Resilient Ranger."
