TEACHER FACILITATION GUIDE

ACTIVITY OVERVIEW

The Syndicate Vault Escape is a cooperative, zero-device-required logic activity designed to challenge students' communication, division of labor, and pattern recognition. Students work in groups of 4 (with assigned specialist roles) to crack 4 security barriers.

PREPARATION CHECKLIST

Workbooks: Print one copy of the Syndicate Vault Workbook for each student team.
Station Cards: Print one set of the Syndicate Vault Station Cards. Cut them out and tape them to different locations around the classroom.
Digital Hub: project the Syndicate Vault Slides on your master projector. Slide 1 or Slide 7 can be displayed with a 45-minute countdown running on your computer.

TEACHING & SCAFFOLDING STRATEGIES

If a team is struggling, do not give them the direct answers. Use these specialized prompt questions to steer them in the right direction:

Station 1 Help: "Who is calling out coordinate values? Are you checking both layers before crossing off? Make sure Alpha and Beta are looking at separate sheets."

Station 2 Help: "If F is shifted to 18, what is the distance of the shift? Write out the full alphabet index below to help you count backwards."

Station 3 Help: "Read each clue one by one. If Card 109 is green, check green and cross out green for other cards. Standard logic puzzle elimination rules apply."

STATION 1: GRID OVERLAP SOLUTION

Students must verbalize the coordinates of their solid black markers. The overlapping squares that are black on both grids are:

STATION 2: THE CIPHER INDEX SOLUTION

The Station Card provides the anchor value: A = 4. This indicates a Caesar Cipher shift of +3 positions (e.g. A becomes D, B becomes E, etc.).

Applying the reverse shift (-3 letters) to decode the cipher string:

STATION 3: THE EXCLUSION MATRIX SOLUTION

Using the logic clues split between Player Sheet A and B, players eliminate cards until only one remains:

Card #109 is green, no gold trim, has red chip, serial ends in odd. (Eliminated - no gold trim).
Card #502 ends in an odd number. (Eliminated - clue states authentic serial ends in 4).
Card #784 ends in 4 but has no gold trim. (Eliminated - clue states authentic card has gold trim).

The Morse telemetry movements are mapped from START (col 2, row 2) as follows:

Pulse 1 (—) = MOVE RIGHT 1 → lands on Y

Pulse 3 (——) = MOVE LEFT 2 → lands on H

Pulse 4 (••) = MOVE DOWN 2 → lands on L

An escape room is only as valuable as the learning extracted afterward. Gather students together in a circle immediately after completion and facilitate a 10-minute guided discussion focusing on their collaborative behaviors.

"How did it feel when you were banned from looking at each other's papers at Station 1? What strategies did you develop to translate physical shapes or layouts purely through verbal communication?"

2. STRESS, CLARITY & PACE

"When the countdown on the screen was ticking lower, did your communication get louder or quieter? How does stress change your ability to listen actively, and how did you keep each other centered?"

3. ROLE INDIVIDUALIZATION

"Did your designated specialist roles (Coder, Analyst, Transceiver, Cartographer) actually mirror your natural working preferences? If you were to run the mission again, would you switch roles? Why?"
