Lesson Overview

This capstone lesson empowers students to present their 30-day success plans (synthesizing their organization strategies, attendance habits, weekly time map, and SMART goal) to peers. Students exchange feedback using a structured protocol, complete a school success post-survey to measure growth against baseline data, and finalize their commitments to a successful academic term.

Facilitator Preparation & Materials Checklist

Print Requirements:

1 copy per student: 30-Day Success Plan Template
1 copy per student: School Success Growth Survey
1 ticket per student: One Word Checkout Ticket

Pre-Lesson Setup:

Retrieve students' completed pre-surveys (for growth comparison).
Arrange desks in "Triad Pods" of 3 to facilitate peer reviews.
Set a digital countdown timer for presentations (2 min/student).

Minute-by-Minute Lesson Pacing

00 - 08 MIN

Step 1: Welcome & Pitch Prep (8 minutes)

Welcome students to "Launch Day." Direct them to pull out their individual portfolio elements (SMART Goal, Time Map, and Attendance commitments) and complete the consolidated 30-Day Success Plan Template. Students spend 3 minutes writing their executive summary and practicing their 60-second elevator pitch.

Teacher Tip: Encourage students to focus their pitch on their biggest "Growth Area" and how their plan directly targets it.

08 - 23 MIN

Step 2: Triad Showcase & Plus/Delta Protocol (15 minutes)

Divide students into pre-assigned Triad Pods. Each student gets 5 minutes total: 2 minutes to present their success strategy, 2 minutes for peers to document and share 1 "Plus" (strength) and 1 "Delta" (actionable improvement area), and 1 minute to record feedback.

Protocol: Speaker shares without interruption. Peers must frame Deltas as suggestions (e.g., "What if you changed your study space to...").

23 - 33 MIN

Step 3: Growth Post-Survey & Reflection (10 minutes)

Distribute the School Success Growth Survey. Have students complete the 6 Likert-scale questions reflecting their current capabilities. Distribute their initial baseline surveys from Day 1. Students copy baseline scores onto the post-survey, calculate their positive growth, and complete the written reflection.

33 - 40 MIN

Step 4: Plan Revision & Target Refinement (7 minutes)

Direct students to review their peer Deltas and their growth survey. Students must write down at least one specific revision on their 30-Day Success Plan Template to address a potential bottleneck or reinforce their main strategy.

40 - 45 MIN

Step 5: One Word Checkout & Celebration (5 minutes)

Distribute the One Word Checkout Ticket. Instruct students to distill their commitment for the upcoming 30 days into one powerful, action-focused word (e.g., "Consistent," "Resilient," "Focused"). Have each student stand, state their word aloud, and submit their ticket.

Celebration: Lead a brief drumroll on desks before students read their words. This builds collective momentum and transition energy!

Common Student Misconceptions & Pitfalls

"Delta" feedback is criticism: Students might hesitate to give negative-sounding feedback. Reframe Deltas as "Optimizations" designed to make the plan bulletproof, not point out failures.

Survey growth is negative or flat: Remind students that a lower post-score sometimes reflects higher self-awareness (realizing how tough high school is), which is itself critical growth.
