Growing Happy Hearts Together
I Love to Play!
🎨
🏃
🧱
At school, I play with my friends. We build, we draw, and we run together.
My Words are Special
When I talk, my words go into my friends' ears. My words can make people feel happy or sad.
Ouchy Words
STUPID
UGLY
Sometimes, I use "ouchy" words like "stupid" or "ugly." These words are hurtful.
How Hearts Feel
When I say ouchy words, my friend's heart feels small and sad. They might not want to play anymore.

Slide-by-Slide Discussion Guide
Addressing "Ouchy Words" (Slides 4-5)
Key Point: It's okay to feel frustrated, but it's not okay to use words that hurt someone's body or heart.
Teacher Script:
"Look at these words: 'Stupid' and 'Ugly.' When we say these, they act like a tiny pinch to someone's heart. Has anyone ever had their feelings hurt by a word? How did your heart feel?"
The Three Steps (Slide 6)
Key Point: We have the power to stop our words before they come out.
Teacher Script:
"Let's practice our Kind Word Superpowers! When you're mad, I want you to Stop (hand up), Breathe (deep breath), and Choose a Heart Word. Let's try it together!"
The "Wrinkled Heart" Demo
Hold up a large, smooth paper heart. Every time you mention an "Ouchy Word," crumple the heart a little bit. By the end, the heart is a ball.
"Try to flatten it out. See those lines? Even when we say 'sorry,' those ouchy words leave a mark. That's why we try to use Heart Words first!"
Note: If the student uses these words to get a reaction, focus heavily on the "Heart Word" praise for peers to model the desired behavior.
