LESSON OBJECTIVE
Students will identify the component steps of the school day and reach a class consensus on one "tricky transition" to document and master through a social story guide.
The Hook: "The Mixed Up Teacher"
Perform a short skit where you attempt to get ready for a cold day but do everything in the wrong order. For example:
Put your big winter coat on, then try to put a t-shirt on over it.
Put your shoes on, then try to pull socks on over the shoes.
Put gloves on, then try to tie your shoes.
Discussion Prompt: "Why am I having such a hard time? What did I forget about the steps?"

STEP-BY-STEP FACILITATION

Identify the Big Blocks
Use the chart paper to list the "Big Events" of the day (Morning Meeting, Math, Recess, Lunch, Literacy). Ask: "What happens right before recess? What happens right after?"

Define 'Transition'
Explain that a transition is the glue between the big events. It's when we move our bodies, clean up, or change our brain to a new subject.

The "Tricky Spot" Brainstorm
Ask: "When does our classroom feel the loudest? When do people feel the most confused?" Guide them toward identifying specific transitions (e.g., coming in from the bus, cleaning up centers).

The Classroom Vote
"We can only be 'Action Movie Directors' for one routine at a time. Let's vote on which one we should fix first with our special storybook!"

Facilitating the Photo Shoot | Lesson 2
The Mission
Today, the class will produce the visual assets for their social story. By staging these photos, students internalize the expected behaviors through physical modeling and visual analysis.
Setup & Roles
Divide the class into small crews (4-5 students) or work as one whole-class production team depending on available devices.
Directors
Hold the checklist, check the lighting, and yell "Action!" or "Freeze!"
Actors
Model the behavior (Quiet Hands, Calm Body, Walking Feet).
Equipment
iPad or Digital Camera
Printed Shot List
Flashlight (for fun/lighting)
Pro Tip
Take multiple shots of the same step. It gives the students choices later when they have to pick the "best" one for the book.
Staging the Narrative

The Transition Pivot
Capture the exact moment the routine changes. If it's Recess to Classroom, take a photo of students standing still when the whistle blows or the bell rings. Focus on the stop action.

The Middle Mile
Focus on the most difficult part of the movement. If it's hallway walking, take a photo from the actor's eye-level showing the space between them and the person in front. This provides visual perspective.

The "I'm Ready" Destination
The final photo should be high-success. Close-up on a student at their desk with materials ready. This is the Goal Image.
