1 The Blueprint Design (10 min)
"Apprentice architects! Each part of our blueprint must be identical in size, or the building will be unstable!"
Demonstrate partitioning a rectangle into 4 equal parts. Introduce Unit Fraction : exactly one part of the whole (3.3C).
2 Measuring the Parts (15 min)
Denominator : The "Total Team" of parts in the whole.
Numerator : The "Active Team" (always 1 today).
Check : Draw an unequal model. Ask "Is this valid?" (Rigor check for 3.3A).
3 Blueprint Assembly (20 min)
Guide students through sharing metal bars equally among groups (3.3E).
"How can you prove these parts are equal in area?"
"What is the name of just one of these parts?"
Structural Support
Provide pre-partitioned shapes for students with fine motor challenges. Use tiles to overlay models.
Advanced Engineering
