Grade 7 Math Interim Assessment 1 Preparation
Name: Period:
IA 1: Put In The Work!
Optional Challenge
Your Final Study Guide to Success
Target
Mastery & Growth
Your IA is almost here! You've spent this week practicing, reviewing, and strengthening your math skills. Now it's time to take ownership of your preparation. The more you practice, the more confident you'll feel on test day!
Section 1: What Should I Practice?
Step-by-Step
- 1 Look through ALL your IA study guide packets from this week.
- 2 Find questions you have NOT completed yet.
- 3 Prioritize questions you struggled with, skipped, or missed.
- 4 Complete those questions independently with zero distractions.
- 5 Show ALL work and demonstrate your strong mathematical habits.
- 6 Check your work and star questions you still need help with.
No new packets needed: Work directly from materials already in your folder!
Section 2: Study Smarter, Not Harder
6 Power Habits
1. Practice a Little Every Day: 15–20 focused mins daily helps. No need to finish a whole packet at once.
2. Show Your Work: Don't solve in your head. Write steps and make calculations visible.
3. Mathematical Habits:
• Read & annotate info
• Identify what's asked
• Organize work & steps
• Show each calculation
• Label answers & units
• Check sense & reason
4. Learn From Mistakes: Figure out WHY an answer was wrong and retry.
5. Practice the Hard Stuff: Challenge yourself with problems that make you think.
6. Ask for Feedback: Bring practice to your teacher to see what to refine.

- • Work toward a SmartScore of 80 or higher.
- • Pay attention to explanations when you make mistakes; use scratch paper.
- • Keep practicing until you understand the skill, not just for a score!
REMINDER: IXL practice is optional and is another way to prepare for your IA.

EARN +5 EACH DAY!
Turn in completed practice questions daily
Next week, bring completed practice questions from your IA study guide packets to your math teacher for feedback.
Students who bring completed practice showing their work and mathematical habits can earn +5 each day they participate.
Note: You do not have to complete an entire packet each day! Focus on quality practice and clear thinking.

- ✓ Mistakes are opportunities to learn—not setbacks!
- ✓ Understand how to get there, not just an answer.
- ✓ The goal is improvement, not perfection!
