Reference Jar (10 marbles), Clay/Play-Doh, Station Labels, Vocab Cards.

Warm-up: The Book Pile (5m)
Setup: Hold a large pile of books in one hand and a small pile in the other.
Teacher Script:
"Look at my hands. This pile is BIG. This pile is SMALL. This hand has MORE books. This hand has LESS books. Everyone say: MORE! ... Everyone say: LESS!"
ELL Tip: Use exaggerated body language. Lift the "More" hand higher to show its weight/size.

Video Sorting (10m)
Play the "Comparing Numbers of Objects" video. Use the following pauses:
0:15 - Baseline
"How many horses does Gavin have? Let's count them together. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. Keep the number 6 in your brain!"
0:33 - Arrangement
"Do these look the same? They are in a square, not a line. Let's count... Oh! It's still 6! They are the SAME."
0:53 - Less Than
"Wait! There are 5. Is 5 more than 6 or less than 6? Repeat after me: '5 is less than 6.'"
1:05 - More Than
"Look at all those horses! Is it more or less? Let's guess... It looks like MORE. Let's count to check."

Vocab Stations (15m)
Setup: Reference Jar of 10 Marbles placed in the center of the room.
TABLE 1: MORE
Students make a clay pile with MORE than 10 balls.
TABLE 2: LESS
Students make a clay pile with LESS than 10 balls.
TABLE 3: SAME
Students make exactly 10 balls to match the jar.
