What's a Digit Worth?
Numbers are made of digits (0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9)
The place a digit is in tells us its value
We'll start with ones and tens !

Ones Place: The Single Digits
The very first digit on the right is the ones place .
It tells you how many single items you have.
Example: In the number 5 , you have 5 ones.
Tens Place: Groups of Ten
The digit to the left of the ones place is the tens place .
It tells you how many groups of ten you have.
In 43 , the 4 is in the tens place (40) and 3 is in the ones place (3).

Going Bigger: The Hundreds Place
To the left of the tens place is the hundreds place .
Example: In the number 3 00, the 3 is in the hundreds place.

Session 1: What's a Digit Worth? (Slides 1-3)
Teacher: "Good morning/afternoon, everyone! Today, we're going on an adventure to understand how numbers work. It's like finding out a superhero's secret identity! Every number has parts called digits . Can you say 'digits'?"

Teacher: "Excellent! Digits are the single numbers from 0 to 9. And where a digit sits in a number tells us how much it's worth. This is called place value ." [Show Slide 1]
