Home Math Missions
Quick Everyday Missions
No prep or worksheets needed! Spend 5–10 minutes talking through these missions during meals, errands, or playtime. Check each box as you complete a challenge!
Pick 1–2 Daily
✖
Equal Groups & Arrays
Multiplication & Division
Snack Fair-Share
Count out 18 snacks. Ask: "If 3 people share equally, how many does each get?" Write the fact: 18 ÷ 3 = 6.
Real-World Array Hunt
Find an array (egg carton, muffin tin, ice tray, or window). Count rows and columns: "3 rows of 4 makes 12!"
Skip-Count Bounce
Bounce a ball while skip-counting by 3s, 4s, 6s, or 8s. Can you make it to 10 multiples without dropping the ball?
Focus: equal groups, rows, columns 3 Missions
½
Kitchen Fractions
Equal Parts & Fair Shares
Toast & Sandwich Cuts
Cut food into 2 halves, then 4 fourths. Ask: "Would you rather have 2 fourths or 1 half?" Notice they represent the same amount!
Paper Ribbon Fold
Fold a paper strip into 4 parts (¼), then fold again into 8 parts (⅛). Notice more pieces make each piece smaller!
Fraction of a Set
Grab 8 small toys or socks. If 3 are blue, state the fraction: "3 out of 8 items are blue, so ⅜ of the set is blue!"
Focus: halves, thirds, fourths, eighths 3 Missions
💯
Numbers & Errand Math
Place Value, Addition & Subtraction
Receipt Rounding
Look at 2 grocery prices. Round each to the nearest dollar or ten cents, then estimate the total sum in your head before checking!
License Plate Digits
Spot 3 digits on a license plate (e.g. 4, 8, 2). Who can make the largest 3-digit number (842)? Who can make the smallest (248)?
Partner to 100
Call out any 2-digit number (like 65). Have your child quickly find the mental partner needed to reach 100 (35)! Swap roles.
Focus: hundreds, tens, rounding, mental math 3 Missions
📐
Home Scavenger Math
Perimeter, Area, Time & Shapes
Perimeter Patrol
Walk heel-to-toe around the border of a rug or table. Add the 4 sides: "Perimeter is the total distance around the outside rim!"
Sticky Note Area
Tile a book cover or tray with square sticky notes (no gaps or overlaps). Count the total units: "Area is the space covered inside!"
Time-Warp Prediction
Check the clock. Ask: "If bedtime is in 45 minutes, what time will the hands point to?" Count forward by 5-minute intervals.
Focus: perimeter, square units, elapsed time 3 Missions
Quick Math Tip: Ask "Does that answer make sense?" before calculating. Estimating first builds strong mental math habits!

Three 5-Minute Zero-Prep Household Games
Multiplication War Cards
Need: Standard deck of cards
Split deck. Each flips 1 card. Multiply both numbers (Aces=1, Jacks=11, Queens=12). First player to shout the correct product wins both cards!
Skill: Fast fact recall
Target 100 Blitz Dice / Coin
Need: 1 die & scratch paper
Roll 6 times. For each roll, choose if it's "Tens" (roll 4 = 40) or "Ones" (roll 4 = 4). Add as you go. Closest to 100 without going over wins!
Skill: Mental place value
Fraction Face-Off Paper Slips
Need: 8 slips of scrap paper
Write 1 fraction per slip: ½, ¼, ¾, ⅓, ⅔, ⅛, ⅖, ⅘. Mix and split into 2 face-down piles. Each flips 1 slip. Compare sizes—who has the larger fraction? (Tip: compare each to ½). The bigger fraction wins both slips!
