Students will identify vertical and horizontal lines of symmetry in uppercase letters and common geometric shapes, distinguishing between symmetrical and asymmetrical objects.

Rulers, Colored Pencils, and Grid Paper (provided in worksheet)
Lesson Procedure
1. Warm-up: 'Mirror, Mirror' (5 min)
Purpose: Kinesthetic introduction to reflection.
Students stand in pairs facing each other.
One student is the "Mover," the other is the "Reflection."
The Reflection must mimic the Mover's movements exactly as if they are looking in a mirror.
Teacher Tip: Encourage slow, deliberate movements. Ask: "If the Mover lifts their right hand, which hand does the Reflection lift?" (Left).

3. Activity: Alphabet Symmetry Hunt (20 min)
Students write their first names in uppercase block letters on the provided grid worksheet.
Rule 1: Letters must be exactly 3-5 grid squares tall/wide to maintain proportions.Rule 2: Use a ruler and colored pencils to draw lines of symmetry (e.g., Blue for Vertical, Red for Horizontal).Classification: Students count total lines and determine if their name as a whole or individual letters are symmetrical.
4. Closure: The Symmetry Stand-Off (10 min)
"Who has a name with the most lines of symmetry?" (Example: OTTO, BOB, ANNA).
"Who has a letter that has BOTH vertical and horizontal symmetry?" (H, I, O, X).
