Our Goal Today
"Work in pairs to serve up perfect quotients for our triple-digit orders. Remember: The Chef always circles the first two digits when the divisor is too big!"
The "Diner" Team Setup
1
Partner Up
Find your kitchen partner. One person is the Head Chef (writer), and one is the Sous Chef (checker).
2
Circle the Two
For every problem, look at the first digit. If it's smaller than the divisor, the Head Chef MUST circle the first two digits before starting.
3
D-M-S-B Chant
The Sous Chef should quietly chant the steps as the Head Chef works: Divide, Multiply, Subtract, Bring Down!
Chef's Golden Rules
Keep your columns neat! Sloppy math is a kitchen disaster.
Don't forget the remainder! Write it at the top with a big R .
Switch roles! After every 2 problems, swap the Head Chef and Sous Chef positions.
Extra Shift: The How-To Poster
Finished your orders early? Grab a sheet of chart paper and create an instructional poster for the Diner wall.

Teacher Note:
Ensure students are placing the first digit of the quotient above the second digit of the dividend. Common error: Placing the first quotient digit above the hundreds place instead of the tens place when using the 'Circle the Two' rule.
