The tens digit just counts up: 0, 1, 2, 3, 4! You are adding 1 ten each time.

Why does this work?
Every row on a 120 chart has exactly 10 numbers. Moving down one full row hops over 10 numbers at once!

Try the Elevator Trick:
Put your finger on 42. Jump down 1 box: 52!
Put your finger on 71. Jump down 1 box: 81!
Elevator Rule: Down is +10. UP is -10!

Why does 95 become 105?
When you have 9 tens and add 1 more ten, you get 10 tens. 10 tens is ONE HUNDRED!
10 tens + 5 ones = 105 ("One hundred five")

The 3 Big Secrets of Skip Counting by 10s
1. Freeze the Ones!
The ones digit NEVER changes when you hop by tens. If you start with a 4, every hop ends in 4!
Example: 14, 24, 34, 44
2. Tens Grow by +1
Add 1 ten rod, jump down 1 row on the 120 chart, or count the tens digit up by one!
Example: 3 tens → 4 tens → 5 tens
3. Past 90 is 100!
When 9 tens gets another ten, it turns into 10 tens (100). 98 leaps straight to 108!
Example: 88 → 98 → 108 → 118
