What is Perimeter?
Perimeter is the around the outside of a shape. Imagine building a fence around a yard or putting a frame around a blueprint!
The Golden Rule
To find the perimeter of any polygon, you simply:
ADD ALL SIDE LENGTHS TOGETHER!
Example
5 cm 3 cm 5 cm 3 cm
5 + 3 + 5 + 3 = 16 cm
Finding a Missing Side
Sometimes we know the Total Perimeter but one side is missing. We use subtraction to find it!
Add all the known sides together.
Subtract that total from the total perimeter.
The answer is your missing side!
