Strategy #3
Come for extra help AS SOON AS you hit a challenge!
Never wait until the day before the test when it's too late to build skills. Bring 2 specific attempted problems!
Class Golden Rule: Stuck today? See your teacher today or tomorrow — NOT the morning of the test!
Strategy #3 Deep Dive

🚀
The Next-Chance Rule: If you miss a homework problem today, see your teacher for extra help the next time it happens.
Pillar 2 on your Guide
Trap #1: Answer Keys
Peeking at the key before writing full work tricks your brain into thinking "I knew that!"
Trap #2: Packet Gaps
Skipping hard questions without getting help leaves instant blind spots on the real test.
Trap #3: Procrastination
Waiting until test day morning or the night before to ask about a week-old confusion.
Quick Reflection: Which of these traps steals the most points from you? Make the switch today!
Pillar 1 on your Study Guide
T-Minus 3 Days
Look through unit packets, complete all not-done work, review checked HW items.
T-Minus 2 Days
Work through 100% of review packet stations on blank paper before checking keys.
T-Minus 1 Day
Rework hard HW/check problems, or ASK us for extra practice on that skill!
Remember: Got stuck on T-3 or T-2? Come to Extra Help immediately — don't wait for T-1!
Testing Strategies & Focus
Minute 1
Write formulas on the top margin immediately. Clears mental bandwidth.
Two-Pass Rule
Pass 1: Do what you know. Circle stuck ones. Pass 2: Attack circled ones.
Last 5 Min
Never turn in early! Substitute your \( x \) back into original equation to verify.
Anxiety Reset Drill: Pencil down → Inhale 4s → Hold 4s → Exhale 4s → Attack next step.

Guide: Pillar 1 & 2
Slide 7 Traps: Unmask the 3 Passive Traps (Checking keys too soon, leaving packet gaps, the "I'll ask tomorrow" habit). Then transition into Slide 8 (The 3-Day Countdown Plan):
T-3 Days: Audit unit packets; complete any unfinished work or notes; draft 1-page formula sheet.
T-2 Days: Work through 100% of review activities / practice assessments before checking answer keys.
T-1 Day: Rework hard HW / check problems, or ASK US FOR MORE PRACTICE on that skill!

Crucial Mindset Shift
Walk students through why math requires immediate intervention:
Teacher Script: "In English or History, if you don't understand chapter 2, you might still understand chapter 3. But Algebra is a chain. If you don't understand two-step equations today, multi-step equations tomorrow will feel impossible, and word problems next week will feel like another language. When you wait until the day before a test to ask for help, you have 5 confused days compounding on you all at once. Plus, 25 other stressed students show up to the night-before help session. But if you come on Day 1, you get 5 minutes of 1-on-1 coaching with me, the confusion vanishes, and you walk into class tomorrow feeling relaxed."
The Next-Chance Rule: Have students commit to the principle: "If you miss a homework problem today, see your teacher for extra help the next time it happens." Hand out the 1-page Assessment Prep Guide at the end of the presentation!
5
Guide: Section 4 Tactics
1. First 60s Brain Dump: Model dumping key formulas (\( y=mx+b \), slope formula) on the board before looking at Question 1.
2. Two-Pass & Sanity Check: Teach students never to hand in tests early. Plug \( x \) back into original equations to verify both sides balance.
Wrap-Up Routine: Lead class through the 4-4-4 Box Breathing reset drill. Hand out the 1-page Assessment Prep Guide to every student to clip into the front of their binder. Note: A dedicated post-test reflection lesson will follow once exam scores are returned.
"Extra Practice" Basket
Keep skill-specific practice half-sheets (e.g. 4-5 problems on distributing negatives, solving 2-step equations) accessible for students who ask for extra practice on T-1 day.
Review Day Timed Passes
Post answer keys around the room. Students may check keys only after attempting problems on blank paper with full steps shown.
Early Extra Help Routine
Remind students at the end of each class: "If today's exit ticket or HW felt confusing, see me tomorrow morning—do NOT wait until test day!"
"I'll come to extra help tomorrow morning before the test:" "Morning-of extra help is cramming. Your brain needs sleep and spaced reps to retain skills. Come when the topic is taught!"
"I finished all the review activities:" "Awesome! Now ask me for 3 higher-level challenge problems on the hardest skill to lock in an A."
