Weekly Planning Overview
Objectives & Goals for Learning:
Students will perform decimal operations within a functional financial context. By week's end, students will align decimals to add values up to $100.00, subtract with regrouping over zeros to calculate change up to $50.00, and track entries in a personal checkbook ledger.

Monday: 60 minutes Decimal Addition & Menu Math
Student-Friendly Daily Objective: "I can line up decimals by their decimal points to add shopping costs up to $100.00."
Anticipatory Set (5-10m): Spot-the-Error: Contrast a correctly aligned sum with a right-justified misaligned decimal sum on board. Discuss.
Direct Instruction (10m): Model adding $45.20 and $6.75 on a giant color-coded place value grid. Highlight "empty seats" (placeholder zeros).
Guided / Collab (20m): Partner Menu Math: Take turns as Server and Customer. Calculate the sum of 2 menu choices on dry-erase grids.

Show-Me Card assessment: Display a budget of $20.00 and purchase total of $18.45. Students solve and hold up their card with the correct remaining balance ($1.55).
Closure (5 minutes): Group Check-in: Ask one student from each team to share their biggest hurdle when trying to stay under budget.

Thursday: 60 minutes Checkbook Ledgers & Personal Finance

Anticipatory Set (5-10m): Vocab Match-up: On board, draw arrows to link the finance words "Deposit" and "Withdrawal" with the correct math operations (+) and (-).
