LESSON OVERVIEW
This unit uses a warm and friendly "construction blueprint" metaphor to teach third-grade students how to analyze, repair, and build healthy sentences. COMMON MISCONCEPTIONS
Over-expanding: Third-graders often add multiple conjunctions ("and... because... but... so") creating new run-on sentences. Reinforce the "one-conjunction-per-clause" rule.
Sentence Fragments: Students frequently drop subjects when starting lines. Remind them that a complete thought must always answer *Who* did it.
DIFFERENTIATION STRATEGIES
Support Scaffolding: For struggling writers, provide physical word cards they can rearrange physically before writing on the guidelines.
Extension Challenge: Encourage advanced students to use transition words like "Suddenly" or "Finally" to start their sentences in Step 4.

LESSON OVERVIEW
This math lesson uses a "Highway Road Trip" metaphor to satisfy Indiana Academic Standard 3.NS.6 . By visualizing fractions as markers on a road between Mile 0 (start) and Mile 1 (end), students build concrete models of parts of a whole on a horizontal number line.

COMMON MISCONCEPTIONS
Counting Tick Marks: Students often count the ticks rather than the intervals. For example, to make fourths, they might write 4 interior tick marks (which actually creates fifths). Teach them to count the "road segments" or "hops".
Ignoring Standard Size: Students may partition unevenly, drawing massive or tiny gaps. Emphasize that all fractional parts must be equal.
