2 to 4 Players or Teams
Mission Objective & Setup
Explorers venture along a continuous spiral trail through four math territories to collect 15 cipher clues. Follow the path numerically from Tile 0 to Tile 24 at the center of the board to unlock the Master Vault.
Place all player tokens on Tile 0 (Base Camp) .
Stage the 15 Quest Cards face down by zone.
Give each player an Explorer Log Sheet .
Turn-by-Turn Flow
Roll: Roll a standard 6-sided die and move forward in strict numerical order (follow the navigation arrows).
Draw & Solve: Draw the Quest Card corresponding to the tile (or next unsolved card). Show all steps in your Explorer Log.
Verify: Check your answer with the Game Master key. If correct, record that card's Cipher Letter!
Special Board Tiles
Rope Bridge (Tile 3): Correct answer immediately advances you +2 tiles along the path.
Hazards (Tiles 8 & 20): Rock Slide moves back 1 tile; Mist Chasm freezes your roll on your next turn.
Token Cache (Tile 14): Grants a wild cipher hint to assist your decoding.
The Vault Cipher & Victory
Reaching the central Tile 24 completes your journey. To claim final victory:
Collect cipher letters from solved quest cards along the spiral.
Enter the Master Vault and decode the 15-letter secret mystery message on your Explorer Log.
The first explorer or squad to accurately recite the secret phrase wins the expedition!
Cooperative Squad Mode
Explorers can play cooperatively: pool your solved cards, peer-check each other's work, and race against a 40-minute timer to crack the central vault together!
Time: 40-50 Min

Facilitator Key Part 1: Cards 1–8
Card 1: Decimals & Fractions Slot 1 = E
(a) \( \frac{7}{8} = 7 \div 8 = \mathbf{0.875} \) (Terminating decimal)
(b) \( \frac{4}{11} = 4 \div 11 = \mathbf{0.\overline{36}} \) (Repeating decimal)
Note: The repeating block is digits "36".
Correct Answer: 0.875 & 0.3636... → Letter E
Card 2: Irrational Numbers Slot 2 = Q
Rational: \( \sqrt{49} = 7 \), \( 0.2525... = \frac{25}{99} \), \( \frac{22}{7} \)
Irrational: \( \sqrt{18} \), \( \pi \)
Reasoning: 18 is not a perfect square, so its decimal never terminates and never repeats.
Correct Answer: Classifications verified → Letter Q
Card 3: Compare & Order Real Numbers Slot 3 = U
Convert all to decimals: \( 3.5 = 3.500 \); \( \frac{19}{5} = 3.800 \); \( \sqrt{15} \approx 3.873 \); \( 3.\overline{8} = 3.888... \)
Order: \( \mathbf{3.5 < \frac{19}{5} < \sqrt{15} < 3.\overline{8}} \)
Greatest number: \( 3.\overline{8} \)
Correct Answer: Ordered accurately → Letter U
Card 4: Square & Cube Roots Slot 4 = A
(a) \( \sqrt{169} = \mathbf{13} \)

(b) \( 3y^3 - 5 = 76 \implies 3y^3 = 81 \implies y^3 = 27 \implies \mathbf{y = 3} \)
Reminder: Odd roots do not yield \( \pm \).
Correct Answer: x = ±11 and y = 3 → Letter T
Card 6: Exponential Expressions Slot 6 = I
Inside numerator: \( 2^4 \cdot 2^{-1} = 2^{4-1} = 2^3 \)
Power of power: \( (2^3)^2 = 2^6 \)
Quotient rule: \( \frac{2^6}{2^3} = 2^{6-3} = \mathbf{2^3 = 8} \)
Negative power: \( 5^{-3} = \frac{1}{5^3} = \mathbf{\frac{1}{125}} \)
Correct Answer: 2³ (= 8) and 1/125 → Letter I
Card 7: Combining Like Terms Slot 7 = O
Distribute: \( 4(3x - 5) = 12x - 20 \)
Distribute: \( -2(x - 7) = -2x + 14 \)
Collect: \( 12x - 20 - 2x + 14 + 8x \)
Combine: \( (12 - 2 + 8)x + (-20 + 14) = \mathbf{18x - 6} \)
Correct Answer: 18x - 6 (Coeff: 18, Const: -6) → Letter O
Card 8: Variables on Both Sides Slot 8 = N
\( 7x - 9 = 3x + 15 \)
Subtract \( 3x \): \( 4x - 9 = 15 \)
Add 9: \( 4x = 24 \implies \mathbf{x = 6} \)
Check: \( 7(6) - 9 = 33 \); \( 3(6) + 15 = 33 \) ✓
Correct Answer: x = 6 → Letter N

Master Solutions: Cards 9–15 & Vault Reveal
Full solutions for linear relationships, bonus keys, and the final decoded message.
Part 2: Cards 9–15
Card 9: Multi-Step Equations Slot 9 = S
\( 5(2x - 4) - 3(x + 1) = 2x + 12 \)
\( 10x - 20 - 3x - 3 = 2x + 12 \implies 7x - 23 = 2x + 12 \)
\( 5x = 35 \implies \mathbf{x = 7} \)
x = 7 → Letter S (Completes Word 1: EQUATIONS)
Card 10: Solution Types Slot 10 = U
(a) \( 6x + 8 = 6x + 8 \implies \) Infinitely Many Solutions (Identity)
(b) \( 4x - 7 = 4x + 3 \implies -7 = 3 \implies \) No Solution (Contradiction)
(a) Infinitely Many, (b) No Solution → Letter U
Card 11: Proportionality Slot 11 = N
Ratios: \( 12/4 = 3 \), \( 18/6 = 3 \), \( 27/9 = 3 \). Constant ratio exists!
Yes, proportional. Constant \( \mathbf{k = 3} \) mph.
Equation: \( \mathbf{y = 3x} \) (or \( d = 3t \)).
Proportional with k = 3, y = 3x → Letter N
Card 12: Slope Connection Slot 12 = L
Slope \( m = \frac{14 - 0}{4 - 0} = \frac{14}{4} = \mathbf{3.5} \) (or \( \frac{7}{2} \)).

(c) At \( x = 7 \): \( y = 3(7) + 6 = 21 + 6 = \mathbf{27} \)
y = 3x + 6; y = 27 → Letter K (Completes: UNLOCK)
Bonus Keys 16, 17, 18 Tile 14 Cache
Key 16: Rate \( m = 5 \), \( b = 3 \implies \mathbf{y = 5x + 3} \)
Key 17: \( \sqrt{50} \approx \mathbf{7.1} \); \( \sqrt[3]{30} \) is between 3 and 4 .
Key 18: \( (9x^4y^{-6})(2x^4y^5) = \mathbf{\frac{18x^8}{y}} \)

Common Misconceptions to Watch:
• Card 5: Forgetting that \( x^2 = 121 \) produces both positive and negative roots (\( \pm 11 \)).
• Card 7: Sign errors when distributing negative two: \( -2(x - 7) = -2x + 14 \), not \( -14 \).
Pacing & Differentiation Advice:
• Pair students strategically (heterogeneous dyads) or run in cooperative squad mode.
• For students needing acceleration, challenge them to calculate the line of best fit for bonus data.
