In many learners, this recycling process encounters significant friction when text is presented in high-contrast, black-on-white formats. This phenomenon, often referred to as visual stress or scotopic sensitivity, can lead to the perception of letters "jumping" or "swirling" on the page.

Some economists have said the most important effect of the Industrial Revolution was that the standard of living for the general population in the Western world began to increase consistently for the first time in history.
