Instructional Guidance
Scaffolding for Bingo
Encourage students to use "un-simplifying" as a strategy. For example, if you call \(3\sqrt{2}\), students should think: "Three went inside and became \(3 \times 3\), so \(9 \times 2 = 18\)." This is often faster than simplifying every square on the card.
Discussion Anchors
During the strategy share (35-40 min), ask: "How did you handle large numbers like \(\sqrt{128}\)?" and "Was there a specific multiplier that gave you trouble?" (Usually 6s and 7s are trickier for students than 2s and 3s).

How do we decide which factors get to leave the radical?
What happens if a factor doesn't have a pair?
How to Play: Radical Bingo
1
Teacher calls a Simplified radical (ex: \(3\sqrt{2}\)).
2
Work backwards to find the Original radical (ex: \(\sqrt{18}\)).
3
Cover that square! 5 in a row (vertical, horizontal, diagonal) wins!
Pro Strategy
To "un-simplify," square the number outside and multiply it by the number inside.
\(a\sqrt{b} = \sqrt{a^2 \cdot b}\)

Critical Reflection
"Was it easier to simplify the bingo square or 'un-simplify' the teacher's call?"
Turn to your neighbor and explain your favorite strategy for finding pairs.
